St Matthews Newcastle has metal jockey sliders so a conventional 
wooden stay engages with a horizontally sliding vertical metal pin. 
These were attached to the original 19c frame and, when the bells 
were rehung in a new frame in 1993, these sliders were refurbished 
refitted. They work very well but make clanking noises when the 
bells are set which causes some surprises to unsuspecting visiting 
bands.
