Just down the road from South Wraxall, Holt,Wiltshire also used earth as sound-proofing, between bells & ringers. My late father who was tower-captain there in the late forties, told me it was still there when he was in charge, but although I've rung there for 25 years, I can't confirm whether its there now. Phil
