note of a specified bell in their ring other than the tenor was."

In our tower book at Leeds we always write "6 in G" or "8 in F" to describe
our "middle" sets of bells. However not everyone gets it - imagine the
confusion if our bells were not in the easiest of all keys - C. They do
sometimes get called the "F in 8" but I suspect that is more to do with
tower sway than bell pitch.
