According to Jerram the Clyst Hydon tenor is dated 1616 and, indeed, does
bear the initials of John Birdall, plus his fleur-de-lys stop. The fourth
at the Cathedral is of the same date.

Yes, I've inspected the bell at the Cathedral. In addition to Birdall's ini=
tials (in floriated capitals) and the fleur-de-lys, this one also bears the=
'i (bell) t' stamp used by one of the medieval Exeter founders. I believe =
his name is still unknown.
