National Bell Database

I wonder if people realise exactly what a mammoth task this will be. I 
maintain a bell register for just one county (Kent). At the moment it 
contains 1,043 towers, 2,664 extant bells, 1,276 former bells. I 
regularly have reason to add/amend information in this database, and I 
know that there are many more bells out there in Kent to discover.

Replicating this across the country would be very ambitious indeed! I 
have started databases for London and Westminster, but these are not 
nearly so advanced.

You really need enthusiasts close to the ground for anything like this 
to work. Perhaps it would be better to maintain this on a regional 
basis?
