The last time since the Great War that any more than one bell was rung at 
Star Street  (shown in CD's article on St Michael's in the RW last year) was 
in the summer of 1933 - the back six. It was. effectively a "grab" (with 
permission) by Ron Dove. The one bell referred to was the 3rd was rung in 
1966. I was present on that occasion. The tower movement even then was 
considerable. No one made a recording of the one bell. I have seen the 
correspondence rgarding the ringing in 1933 and there is no reference to a 
recording.

I think it is an old wive's tale - rather like the "story" of Liverpool 
Cathedral 9th recently aired on this site.

Interesting, however, about Hammersmith. The circumstances and the 
experience of those present would form an interesting posting.
