"Is there a copy of the 1553 (or thereabouts) survey of Church Goods for
Gloucester? That may have some details.
Isn't Poulton Abbey near Wotton-under-Edge? It's just possible bells may
have been transferred from there when the abbey was dissolved. I know
Poulton was technically in Wiltshire at the time, so you may have to do some
fairly extensive hunting."
A quick check on Google show Poulton Abbey is in Cheshire. However, there used to be an Abbey at Kingswood (Glos, not Bristol) - about 2-3 miles from W-u-E - until that was dissolved. Kingswood was part of Wiltshire until sometime in the 19C even though it was completley surrounded by Gloucestershire. I suppose it is possible that some of the bells were transferred from Kingswood Abbey to St Mary's
