A fellow carillonist has drawn my attention to a forthcoming series
of conferences, to be held annually in Oxford from 2007 to 2010. The
topic is "The Organ in England", but the call for papers includes the
subject of "bell-casting" as it might relate to the organ. Here's
the official call:

"Papers are invited on any topic relating to organs, organ music and
literature, construction, and performance practice up to the
beginning of the 17th century. Topics may include (but are not
limited to) the liturgical use of the organ, its greater role in
society, relevant technology (including areas such as possible
connections with clock-making, bell-casting, the English tin
industry, etc.), iconography, music education as it may relate to the
organ, music publishing (organ) in the period, and medieval and
renaissance scientific inquiry and the organ."

The fourth conference, to be held in 2010, will cover the 20th
century. Perhaps one of my distinguished English colleagues might be
interested in writing a paper connecting bells with organs. The most
famous example might be the G&J theatre organ bells in London.
