Philip Earis has mentioned the "first peal" that was "rung" at Newgate
in 1690. He is not a happy bunny that it is unrecognised as such by the
CC. What documentary evidence is there that a peal was actually rung
at this time? Why would the performance not be repeated in the
intervening 25 years between this performance and the Norwich first
peal?
