worse than large old-style bells; in small bells, the various 
pitches compete and sound discordant. In true-harmonic bells, all 
the pitches are the same 'note'.”

 

Is the problem exacerbated by the thickness of the bell? Some of the foulest
Victorian bells I’ve heard are the front bells of higher-numbered rings.
