According to the Retail Price Index, prices have increased by approx 100%
since January 1987. (Actual figures are 206% if you include everything but
only 83% if you exclude house prices).

Given that £100 per cwt is £2000 per ton, you should now be paying about
£4,000 per tonne (1 tonne being near enough 1 ton).

Cheers,

Paul

I’ve just ordered some bellmetal – it has rocketed up since the beginning of
the year! Purchase price is now £6560 per tonne – easily the highest price
we have had to pay.

Given that the price was virtually static at £100/cwt for probably 25 years
or so, does that make it pro rata more or less expensive now than say 1988?
