Do you mean the Great Depression in the 1920s? I remember a passage in
Lark Rise to Candleford that talked of rising prices in the late 1880s.
(Cant find the book; its in a box in a pile somewhere). I think there was
considerable inflation during the Napoleonic Wars.
Perhaps there should be a price of bell metal index
