Do you mean the Great Depression in the 1920’s?  I remember a passage in
‘Lark Rise to Candleford’ that talked of rising prices in the late 1880’s.
(Can’t find the book; it’s in a box in a pile somewhere).  I think there was
considerable inflation during the Napoleonic Wars.
Perhaps there should be a ‘price of bell metal’ index
