Tonight's edition of The Antiques Roadshow came from Southwell Minster. In her introduction Fiona Bruce explained that a minster was created by a community when priests and the local community got together to finance and build one as a mother church. She explained that the difference between a cathedral and a minster is that the cathedrals had monastic origins, whereas minsters were community mother churches. She said that Southwell is one of only five minsters in the country!
