Village Bells by Alain Corbin, a work that has made me look more
deeply at the
significance and meaning of bells.

I found the book an excellent cure for insomnia!
Likewise - I took it on Holiday & gave up after a few pages on the
plane!

Looks as though I'm alone, but I thought Corbin's Village Bells was a
wonderfully evocative exploration of village life in France during the
nineteenth century, showing how the sound of bells was linked with the
rhythms and meanings of everyday life. It is well written and well
translated, and I read it with real pleasure.
