Looks as though I'm alone, but  I thought Corbin's Village Bells was a 
wonderfully evocative exploration of  village life in France during the nineteenth 
century, showing how the sound of  bells was linked with the rhythms and 
meanings of everyday life. It is well  written and well translated, and I read it 
with real  pleasure.

Good to hear you enjoyed it. I think different people get different  things 
from ringing books - for me I love the description of different towers  and 
bells, complete with their history. Photos being a crowning  glory.
