Just goes to show how sensible it is to install timber, or galvanized, bell
frames in towers by the sea!

Spoken with the tower contact, basically the story is as follows. Bigbury
is near the sea ( Bigbury on sea) and when the bells were recently inspected
there was significant corrosion to the frame and supporting beams , to the
point where the Diocesan Bell Advisor suggested that the bells should not be
rung until the frame was cleaned off so that an informed decision could be
made as to the effective strength of both, there are also a few other issues
such as rotten floors, asbestos in there tower etc which need to be sorted
out. There are also some tower and spire issues.
The PCC approached the Dioceses for advice and were basically told that if
any thing went wrong the Team vicar , churchwardens and all could be
personally liable hence whilst the bells are now shown as U/R
On a positive note I understand that there are moves afoot to get things
sorted
Regards
Robert
