In the case of the old St Martin-in-the-Fields bells, it was the fact that
the tuning was finally completed after some sixty years ringing out as a
'half-tuned' ring that has made all the difference.   Small wonder they were
not very satisfying!

Are you sure they were 'half tuned' or was it that they were tuned to the
best of the ability of the foundry (at that time) doing the work?
