Dalton states that the Cattistock installation was by Stokes and the fittings at Lye are certainly by Stokes (the garter hole design is common to Stokes fittings, and was developed by/with Canon H T Ellacombe to reduce rope wear). I seem to think I have seen Stokes name somewhere on the installation at Lye, or maybe in some paperwork relating to the job.

best wishes,

Matthew

Some of the Belgian bells (past and present) will feature in upcoming articles in the "What's up that Tower Series?" in the RW

As to the Lye, I'm interested in Matthew's suggestion that they were hung by Stokes. I haven't found any mention of this in my own researches and so I would be interested to know the source of the info

The Lye and Bishops Wood bells were both ordered by the same clergyman. Any involvement of Stokes would have been the result of a separate hanging commission, I feel, rather than a tie-up between Van Aerschodt and Stokes.
