I have replied to Richard offline - too much detail for the list - but the basics about Ely are in the article that I did with Paul Cattermole in the Ringing World 
1 May 1998 pp.425-6 - ""Ely bells: an update". And the essence of the weight discrepancy is that Raven got his Latin and his maths pretty hopelessly wrong - something that Paul was able to establish very clearly

As it happens, I'm about to write it all up properly for a learned journal - an unfinished project that Paul left instructions that I was to complete!
