I work at Broughton Hall near Skipton.

In the long passageway under the Hall there are a large number of small
bells mounted on coiled springs with wires attached that go via levers and
pulleys to nearly every room in the Hall. Some of them still work but most of
the levers are seized up. Each bell has the name of the room it serves
painted on it.

The sad part of this is that if one were able to ring a bell there would
be no servants around to answer it.
