The trick with such fund-raising schemes seems to be to get people to pay for the proportional cost of the whole job and not just for the components. I'm sure JBP will have thought of that, but others seem to have skirted round it in their replies so it seemed worth making the specific point. At the end of the day, when all other costs are added in the price structure for donations may not look that much like the unit costs of the parts - but it's still "fair" to the donor, and likely to be more effective for fund-raising
