[Bell Historians] Olympic bell

Newport, Kentucky, USA - see www.towerbells.org/data/NAOtherGreatBells.html

But I could just as well have given the great bell of Gotenba City, Japan, as an example of a successful un-tuned modern bell.

One further point - the claim of "heaviest bell in Europe" might not hold up once the exact weight is known.  "23 tonnes" could be rounded from almost anything between 50400 lbs and 52600 lbs.  But Great Peter of Cologne Cathedral is reported to be over 53000 lbs (though admittedly there are other reports of both greater and lesser weight).  It would be nice to have some authoritative information, no matter how well-informed various third-hand sources might be.

Which World Peace Bell do you mean.  There seem to be loads of them!

So the great bourdon of Riverside Church NYC has lost one of its claims to fame.  In view of the tuning history of that bell, together with the success of (for example) the World Peace Bell, I wonder what prompted the tuning of the Olympic bell.  Surely there was some additional expense and risk involved in doing that.

It has been tuned.

The article cited makes another assertion which may be equally questionable - "largest harmonically tuned bell".  Does anyone know whether the Olympic bell is actually tuned?  Or is it, like other huge single bells cast in recent years, a maiden?
