[Bell Historians] Dove County Listings by Traditional County

As people may be aware, I publish an updated set of county listings to the
Dove website on a quarterly basis. With a bit of spare time over Christmas,
I have generated a set that presents the rings of the British Isles by
traditional county. These listings are just for interest, there being no
current plans to return to using traditional counties throughout Dove.

A copy of these listings has been uploaded into the files area on both the
Bell Historians site and the Nabbers site.

In spite of what many people think, the traditional counties are still alive
and kicking to this day and were not, for instance, abolished by the
government back in 1974. For background reading on this topic, you could
take a look at:
 - Association of British Counties: http://abcounties.com/
 - Historic Counties Trust: http://www.historiccountiestrust.co.uk/

For now, I have used the boundaries that comply with "Historic Counties
Definition A: detached parts are not separately identified, but are
considered to lie within their host historic county". This means, for
instance, that Dudley is shown to be in Staffordshire rather than within the
well-known detached part of Worcestershire. Note, however, that the two
separate parts of the counties of Lancashire and Flintshire are included
within Definition A.

In due course, once the digitised boundaries have been published by Historic
Counties Trust, I hope to move to "Historic Counties Definition B: all
detached parts are separately identified and associated with their parent
historic county".
