I have rung there a number of times most recently two days ago. I have 
wondered what those cords were for; although it was evidently to do with 
sound control it was never quite clear what they actually did, nor was 
this very evident when I did some work in the belfry a couple of years 
back. I have never ever been asked to implement any sound control system 
so conclude they are ineffective. The cords have not infrequently been 
mistaken for clock hammer lifters.
