My great great grandparents,  grandmother, and mother lived in Bebington Hall, known locally as the Old Hall, Lower Bebington. Sadly demolished in Summer 1967,  my mother's side being the Howard's and  Ellisons,  my nan was cousin to Gerald Ellison,  bishop of Chester and London, who was a ringer.I know as a child the clock never worked, and asked my mother if she remembered it chiming, and says that you were able to hear it from the Hall.I know their was intension to get it going again a few years ago,  however when  the Hall was demolished, the new library was built in the grounds along with the police station, social  services,  town Hall and medical centre, and Mayer Hall ended going into a dilapidated condition. I enclose some pictures. According to The Mayer Hall Facebook page there are 
still three bells in the tower, however, it would appear that the clock and a 
small bell which hung outside, are now in The Liverpool Museum. The intention is 
to retrieve both the clock and bell which it is believed were removed when the 
Hall fell into a state of disrepair. If the image of Mayer Hall on the Facebook 
page is contemporary the clock dial remains in situ. It is not possible to 
determine the founder of the bells from the poor images though from the 
information given it would seem the Hall was built in or about 
1865.

Does anyone know anything about the bells at Mayer Hall 
Bebington?  There seems to be some interest in refurbishing the 
installation from a local community group.
