To whom it may concern,

I came across the message below on your web-forum when doing some familial research. E.B. Gipps was my grandfather, known as Bryan, who lived at Egerton House in Egerton, Kent. He was a musician, principally a violinist and conductor, and the brother of composer Dr. Ruth Gipps.

He owned a great many musical manuscripts and books on music; when he passed away, my uncle (also Bryan Gipps) sold the majority of them, each of which had his personalised book plate inside, so I'd presume this is the provenance of the book in question.

I hope that helps Allan Ellis, whoever he may be!

With all best wishes,

Jim Clements

Hello Everyone,

I have been offered an original handwritten ringer's notebook, probably
dating back to the early 1800's. The book plate says 'Ernest Bryan Gipps'.

The title is 'A key to the art of Ringing', which is the printed title
page. The next page, also printed, says 'Northumberland Yorkshire'.
There are then three pages of instructions and the rest of the 32 page
book is handwritten.

Does anyone have an idea who Ernest Bryan Gipps is or where he rang?

What would a book of this type be worth?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best wishes

Alan Ellis
