I had the pleasure of ringing a quarter at matching the other day and there were a couple of things that caught my interest, according to several of my older ringing friends the bells originally had something of a bad reputation and this partly seems to have stemed from the terrible go of the treble (which was in a poorly built rider frame above the original five bell one). Although the old rope bosses are still in existence I now starting to wonder what sort of layout the frame was and more to the point who actually built?. The 2nd dates from 1875 (being cast by mears) so I guess that’s probably when it’s from.
