Banks was a bell hanger based in Lower Kennington Lane, London and advertised regularly in Bell News.

At about the same time as Banks rehung St John's Erith, he also worked on the six at St Vedast, Foster Lane, City of London. Bell news reported:

The work of rehanging of the bells was entrusted to Mr. G. Banks, bell-hanger, of Lower Kennington Lane, S.E., who has acquitted himself right well, for the " go " of the bells is excellent, and as the steeple is one of Sir Christopher W ren's, a nice light and roomy ringing-chamber is the result, as was testified by the men who performed on the bells for services on the opening Sunday, when some Stedman and Grandsire Doubles were well struck by members of the College and Cumberland Youth's Societies.

Subject: [Bell Historians] george banks of kennington

After ringing for a wedding yesterday at erith in kent I had a brief look at the bells with my friend max ganesh, as they where augmented by Mears and stainbank in 1882 I initially assumed that the frame and fittings where by them but according to a contemporary report in the bell news these seem to have been the work of One George banks from Kennington, clearly he seems to have been a pretty competent ringer (ringing in the first peal at erith with the Cumberlands) but I have never heard his name mentioned in connection with bellhanging and I would be interested to see if anyone can perhaps shed some light on him and if he did any other apart from this one?
