Trouble is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me the two
length system is inelegant, having one rule for all is much cleaner to
my point of view. However, I wouldn't die in a ditch over this. The
important thing is we have a debate and come to a decision. As you have
said, clearly this must have happenned I the past (are there any records
of this). I wouldn't take a vote of all the world's ringers though as
they would simply vote for the status quo.
