But it is helped in Bristol by the fact that you get 10 leads between a W and M. In an mx method this is reduced to 3. The extending lead feature also doesn't help with minimal calls.

Richard, the key to reducing the number of calls is having whole courses without any calls.  In Bristol Max, this can be achieved eg by going from a Middle to a Home, from a Home to a Wrong, etc.

See for example the 2-part David Pipe composition discussed on here a few months ago: this has 12 calls in the whole peal (and is also very musical)
