Hi All,

At least PJE has the advantage of knowing me - unlike James White, whoever she is, who makes the error of assuming that somebody's nickname is their real name. Margaret D "Robin" Woolley is long dead, anyway.

PJE said "that some of the exciting new things that have been rung in recent years are "not
worthy" of classifying, ..."

If they are that exciting, why aren't they rung more? In short, my view is, why go through all the trouble of finding a separate category(ies) to put something in when the thing proposed proves less than popular. Forgive me for being cynical, but the longer one lives the less one bothers to listen to those saying 'this is the best thing since sliced bread'.

I have asked this question before, and I don't think I have ever received an answer: why are people desperate for 'compliance' for everything they do? We *know* that there are those who don't give a stuff for 'compliance' - I can think of one list member who seemed very surprised that a performance he took part in was the subject of a compliance-request from other members of the band.

I *believe* that publication is categorising. It is not as it used to be hundreds of years ago where the same method had different names in different parts of the country. I can look up Gluon pretty quickly if I want to. The naming requirement is a bit of a red-herring as we on the Methcom say it would be 'churlish' to rename it as something else.

b.t.w., Matthew Frye was talking de facto recently. 'Illegal', 'Forbidden', etc have a de jure connotation - so he is neither a fool or a knave in this case. Certainly, since 2002, methods comply or do not comply with decisions - and that is all. I do not see it as value judgment on the method per se. There are some well established - but pretty awful methods - Grandsire, for example, so method quality is not a criterion.

I think the main difference between PJE and me is this: PJE likes to do something straight away, I like to wait and see.

How many times have the 'Particles' been rung to a peal? Is it more than three?

Best wishes
Robin
