Andrew: "I'm not sure what we would have done. Perhaps I would have started the 10-part search earlier. There had been an attempt to ring Colin Wyld's composition before. Should Colin have published the magic blocks before finding out how to link them? Publishing a partial, but not optimal solution means possibly losing out on being first to find the best solution"

I think you are conflating two distinct points here. I understand where you are coming from with your last sentence quoted above. But, as you explicitly acknowledge, Colin Wyld's bobs only Stedman triples wasn't a partial incomplete draft - it was the first ever composition of bobs only Stedman triples, solving a 200+ year old problem, and a band was actively attempting it.

Similarly, MBDs new output isn't a partial set of leadhead groups that might lend itself to an atw spliced arrangement...it is a fleshed-out composition that, as I write, a band are learning and will attempt soon.

Sharing things tends to lead to progress, development and moving forwards. We're seeing this in real time on the list regarding tenors together spliced atw.
