Hi All,
Most of you will have received emails from your home towers advising that
following Government advice on gatherings, practices are suspended until
further notice.
The same applies to the Ringing Education Centre which runs its sessions at
Stretham. All REC sessions from today are cancelled.
This is the sensible thing to do and very sad at the same time. We live in
strange and unsettling times.
*However, *prior to sending out this email I was thinking if there was a
way we could react pro-actively. It has been heartening to hear of local
communities taking on the task of looking after each other. When I look at
the Stretham REC mailing list I can see that we have created a community of
bell ringers that goes across home towers and districts. There are ringers
from Ely, Cambridge, Huntingdon and Wisbech Districts who put up with my
notices every week. I am grateful and it gave me an idea which may not be
as bad as my jokes.
Whether we live on our own or in shared/family households we are
effectively going to be more socially isolated than usual. One can feel
alone in a family setting or living independently.
I am proposing that instead of saying, 'Goodbye, take care, see you when
the crisis is over', we use this email to support each other. If you find
you have to self isolate, then maybe someone on this list lives nearby and
can help.
To keep our hands in the ringing arena we could do an 'ask the teacher a
question email' about anything concerning ringing. This is your chance to
ask about strange bell ringers terminology, 'Who is this Bob?'. If you do
not want to ask, send me the question direct and I will find a teacher who
can answer it much better than me.
Could teachers and other ringers who might have information/diagrams on the
theory of ringing or theory exercises take this opportunity to circulate
the info. This is not homework, it will not be marked, but it might be of
interest.
Jokes, as ever, as long as appropriate for the audience, will be welcome.
They cannot be as bad as mine!
This would be a weekly email unless someone needs help/has a question.
If you do not like this idea, let me know and I will not go ahead if more
than five people object. Alternatively you can just delete the emails.
If you would like to try this idea then to mail everyone send an email to:
stretham-rec at lists.beasts.org
If you want to contact me direct or would like me to circulate a message
for you then please email:
strethamrec at elyda.org.uk or louise9595 at gmail.com
Pass these details to anyone you know who might be interested in receiving
these emails.
Let's really stay in touch and keep our happy and mildly eccentric band of
people who like to pull long ropes with big bits of metal on the end
together.
Best wishes,
Louise
