In The Guardian today (so it must be right) is an account of the re-
opening of St Ethelburga's as a centre for peace - this church, you 
will recall, was all but destroyed by an IRA bomb in 1993.

The article says "the church's medieval timbers remained largely 
undamaged, as did it's bells . . .". The picture in the paper shows 
the inside of the base of the tower, with a timber framework on 
corbels. The English Heritage website says the tower "contained a 
timber bell tower probably dating from the original construction of 
the body of the church in c1400".
