"....and in one room, at least, the very ceiling is crowded, for eight or
ten great circles of metal hang from it like chandeliers, each a portion of
some noteworthy mediƦval bell which has been melted down, but whose
black-letter inscription has thus been preserved."
This description of H.T. Ellacombe's Rectory at Clyst St. George was printed
in the preface of The Ringers Guide to the Church Bells of Devon 1888 by
Charles Pearson.
Does anyone know what happened to this collection of bronze inscription
bands?
