"Finally, there was a query about Murphy bells. The set exhibited at the
Great Exhibition were put up at King's Cross Station, where Ranald inspected
them. They were subsequently sold as scrap to Mears & Stainbank who I
believe had such trouble in breaking them that they resorted to borrowing
acetylene torches from Buck & Hickman next door to cut them up."

I've come across a newspaper account of the recasting of the York Minster
bells in 1925, which describes in detail how the tenor was placed on the
floor of the casting hall and a 15 cwt 'smashing ball' dropped on 'him',
which, unsurprisingly, reduced 'him' to pieces!
