Can offer this as an immediate response:
Oatlands is in the eastern side of Weybridge. Ring of eight in a tower buil=
t in 1911. Bells cast by Warners for the celebration of the Durbar of 1911 =
in India, but the event was cancelled owing to the death of King Edward VII=
. The bells were exhibited at the Empire Festival at Crystal Palace and, wh=
en the original commission fell through, Oatlands was given the first refus=
al on the bells. They were dedicated on 2 March 1913 (Morgan and Schupke To=
wers and Bells Around Guildford (1999) p.54 and notices in the tower)

Subject: [Bell Historians] St. Mary's, Oatlands Park, Surrey
I remember reading somewhere that the bells (12cwt Warner 8) at St. Mary'=
s,=20
Oatlands Park in Surrey were originally cast for use at the 'Delhi Durbar=
'=20
- the enthronement ceremony of King George V as Emperor of India in 1911.
There was some problem and the bells never made it to India - I believe=20
they were then bought by a London showman and used for a year or two in=20
various live performances (possibly at Earls Court or Olympia). The Vicar=
=20
of Oatlands Park apparently went to one of these shows and made a=20
successful bid for the bells when it closed.
Does anyone have further information or references on this story please?
Robert
