Possibly worth saying that the best published short account of Warner's fou=
ndry in my view is in George Elphick's "Sussex Bells and Belfries"; though =
no doubt Dorset III will eclipse it !
There are a large number of papers on and from John Warner & Sons in the Ra=
nald Clouston archive, presumably now in the Pitt-Rivers.
There is no substitute for consulting the Warner catalogues - CJP drew our =
attention some while ago to the "New Century" one of c1900, which I believe=
goes far beyond their bell work; and dare I bring back our old friends by =
saying that there was a similar production of about the same period dealing=
with far more than bells by our old friends, Llewellins & James.

There are no actual records from Warners foundry, where bellfounding was =
really little more than a sideline of a much larger brassfounding and metal=
working business. They cast something like 6000 to 7000 bells between 1850=
and 1920. The best published accounts of the firm are in Elphick's Sussex,=
and in Bill Butler's book on Handbells
As far as Ivinghoe is concerned, I very much doubt if the old bells were =
"recycled". In those days old bells were more or less invariably recast, an=
d finding new homes for sound old bells was extremely uncommon (though ther=
e are some instances)

Hi,
I'm new to the list, and wonder if there's anyone out there who can hel=
p me.
I'm a ringer at Chippenham, Wilts, and am also interested in local hist=
ory.
On a history list of which I am a member there was a bell enquiry which=
I'm passing on to you:
=20=20=20=20=20
Corrall asks: "Does any one know anything of the history of John Warner=
bell foundry?
The bells of Ivinghoe, St Mary the Virgin, Bucks were cast there in 187=
5.
I'm told that the original 5 bells were augmented to 6, and that some o=
f the bells were 'recycled and sent off to other churches'."
=20=20=20=20=20
Corrall wants to know if she could find records about her church's bell=
s and where they were sent. Do records of John Warner's foundry still exist=
?
Many thanks in advance for any information.
