Were the gudgeons and bearings replaced? As rehung in 1906 the bells would 
have had plain bearings. If these were replaced them the bells were 
augmented the headstocks would have had to come off and would have given an 
opportunity to weigh the bells. Were the remains of the cast-in staples cut 
out? If so this would have given a reason for weighing the bells.

Incidentally, do you happen to have any details of the bells at the 
neighbouring village of Kingstone. I vaguely recall from ringing there once 
that they were an old back four with two modern trebles, but I don't appear 
to have any details.
