Profiles, an example, Watford back 8 Gillett flat head 1918, front 2
button top 1947.
Result 10 o/k but front 6 a real mess. The two /47 bells are much
brighter, stronger in the upper partials.
We would love to loose them and have 4 new bells, but they were given as
a memorial which presents difficulty.
A shame, the 2 new bells are actually fine bells but a poor match. They
would be really good, matched with like.

"Don't forget at Masham, it was decided, I'm not sure by whom, that the
new trebles should be cast to profiles matching the other bells. It
works well with Gillett rings, but not necessarily with bells by
earlier founders!"

There are two factors here. One is metal composition - with Gillett
bells it will be good, but with older bells it might well vary. There is
also the fact that profiles used by earlier founders may not translate
well to the trebles of higher numbers - the old profile coupled with the
necessary extra thickness in trebles of ten and 12 might well lead to
errant harmonics becoming more prominent.
