I forgot to mention that the ringing was at St. Mary's Cathedral in Sydney and would have probably have been in the late 1950's.

An interesting sidelight of the Anglican Cathedral bells in Bathurst.  Of news of the capture of Sebastopol being received in December 1855 "over-exuberant townspeople rushed into the belltower and struck the bells with iron bars, cracking the tenor".   John
