I suspect that story has been confused with the story
of the last ringing meeting at Hoddlesden (another
lost Lancashire six) which was also about that time.
Raincoats were certainly needed when ringing on that
occasion! I know that the last peal at St.
Bartholomew's nearly caused a riot outside when they
had finished.
