As Andrew says, the old tenor was by Thomas Mears and was said to be thin
and porous. The new bell had a checkered, if short, history as it cracked
a few years ago and was welded. The local legend in Shropshire at the time
was that the crack was caused by the clock hammer, but I don't know if this
is fact or fiction.

Do you know who it was by? Was it a Rudhall bell? Presumably they started
out as a complete octave.
