When it was published in 1993 that may well have been the case. Nowadays
there is a much more enlightened attitude. Unfortunately this is sometimes
spoilt by the dogmatic demands of large heritage bodies wishing to keep
frames which patently do not work as frames!

In Chris Pickford's useful tome "Bellframes", Christopher Dalton says "The
bell-hanging industry in recent decades has generally been geared to renewal
rather than repair;.." Is this a good thing?
