We are talking, presumably, about engraving prints of these bells - rather than engraving the bells themselves.

There's no mention of Searl in the text of Chris McKay's recent and comprehensive account of Big Ben - an excellent book that deserves a big promitional plug on this list (if you haven't got it, it IS a book to buy). However, it's possible that Searl was responsible for one of the engravings - and the book does include most of the contemporary illustrations of the bells. Engravers often get overlooked in captions and credits, although artists and publishers tend to get mentioned
