Quite a captivating historical "reality TV" that takes some 21st century
families back to the late 1800s living in a London East End slum house.
Each week is a different decade starting with 1860s, 1870s, 1880s (Monday
this week), 1890s and ending in the 1900s.
Bell connection? The first episode (Monday 10th October) has the father of
one family finding casual labour in the Whitechapel Bell Foundry (or
whatever it was called in the 1860s!) and his tasks were to chip away the
brick core from within a new bell and to break an existing one into pieces
proving that it is possible to do it silently!
With my maternal family having come from the East End and having helped my
mother with that line of the family tree back to the early 1800s it was
fascinating to bring it back to life.
Episodes should be on iPlayer etc.
Cheers,
John.
