David Potter inspected Oldham bells yesterday, and apparently the grillage
supporting the top tier of the 3-tier bellframe had become corroded due to a
formerly leaking roof, to the extent that the expansion caused by rusting
has caused one of the 4th's frame sides to crack. He reckons that frameside
will need to be replaced, and almost certainly the whole top grillage as
well, before it will be safe to ring all the bells again.
