Bildeston, Suffolk collapsed more recently but I believe the bells had no=
t been rung for many years. I recall seeing them on the floor after the col=
lapse in, I think, the 1970s. I purchased two photographs showing the devas=
tation shortly after the collapse. At the time the tower was scaffolded for=
repair. Fortunately, the workmen were at lunch at the crucial moment.

The tower has been rebuilt and a ringing six installed.

Neil Skelton.

This also happened at Isleham in the Isle of Ely, sometime in the 19th C.=
There are some good postcards of the collapsed tower in the local studies =
library. The bells were unharmed!
